Studio House Rules
Please be respectful of the space you are practicing in by following these simple rules of the studio. By adhering to these rules you will make the environment pleasant for all and get the most out of your time in the space.
1- Please inform your teacher of any injuries or conditions that might affect your practice. If you are dealing with an a injury or condition it is always best to modify the practice.
2- Shower before class as dirty bodies smell really bad when they get hot and sweaty. Wear clean yoga clothes, wash your mat regularly and do not wear perfume or cologne as these can cause allergic reactions for others(this includes the teacher).
3- Make sure you are fully hydrated before you come to class, and try to practice on an empty digestive tract (unless you have a health issue that prevents this). Try to go to the bathroom before class, and refrain from drinking water during class (again, unless you have a health issue requiring it.) Drinking water during class will distract you, and cooling the body with water in class can also lead to injury. Your sweat is what your body uses to keep you cool - try not to wipe it off continuously, and you will not get overheated.
4- Turn off your cell phone and do not bring it into the practice space. Do your best to keep talking to a minimum. Talking is a distraction from practice, and can be disturbing for other people. Please be respectful and try to keep the atmosphere calm.
5- You may be asked to change your place in the room. This is to maximize our intimate space and fit everyone in comfortably.
6- Ashtanga is a daily practice. A practice can be as short as 15 minutes or as long as 90+ minutes. All students should take one day a week off, and there is no practice on moon days (new moon, and full moon). This means some weeks you will practice 6 days and some you will practice 5. For why we don't practice on moon days, click here.
7- For women- Do not practice yoga during days of menstruation, at minimum the 3 heaviest days. Irregularities in your menstrual cycle such as prolonged periods may result from practice at this time.
